Terrapin men’s basketball coach Gary Williams inked a new contract Monday, increasing his annual salary by $300,000.
The deal — which also gives Williams the opportunity to earn up to $2.3 million in incentives this season — could keep the coach under contract through 2013 if all academic and athletic goals are met.
Williams previously made $1.3 million preseason, but will now earn $1.6 million under his new contract. He will also earn a one-year extension for every year the Terps make the NCAA tournament and if his team can meet certain academic standards.
Williams — who is in his 17th year with the program — will receive the incentives if his team meets the NCAA Academic Progress Rate score of 925 or the scholarship athletes earn 27 credits per year. He can also receive bonuses if he graduates 50 percent of his players and finishes in the top half of the ACC.
Williams and the No. 16 Terps are off to a 7-2 record. They host American on Friday.
