Center Diamond Stone slaps hands during introductions prior to the Terps’ 91-55 victory over Southern New Hampshire at Xfinity Center on Nov. 6, 2015.
Legendary Office character Michael Scott once excitedly claimed that swag stands for “stuff we all get.” If the Dunder Mifflin boss were real, he’d probably do everything he could to get to the Terps’ game against Georgetown on Tuesday at the University of Maryland’s Xfinity Center, because there’s going to be plenty of swag.
All students in attendance for the matchup will walk away with a replica Under Armour T-shirt courtesy of Capital One Bank, according to an email sent by Maryland Basketball on Monday night. In addition, students will also receive Maryland-flag arm sleeves, just in case you didn’t have enough flag-covered things to wear.
The email also provides additional information regarding the broadcasting of former Terp and current TV personality Scott Van Pelt’s SportsCenter show, which will take place following the contest’s conclusion in Xfinity Center. People are encouraged to bring signs à la College GameDay to hold up during the broadcast — the athletic department just asks that they’re in “good taste.” Radford jokes, however, should be OK.
Students can start lining up for the highly anticipated showdown at 9 a.m., so there might be a lot of missed classes throughout campus. At 6:30 p.m., a student-only pep rally will happen, where Terp supporters will be taught new cheers and reminded of old ones.
At the end of the email, there was a unique note to fans asking those coming to Xfinity to be ready for “additional security measures” that “will be in place the remainder of the season.” The advisory could be in response to Friday’s terror attacks in Paris. Nevertheless, Tuesday’s game should be a memorable night for players and patrons alike — especially those who like free stuff and a chance to be on national TV.
