Vernon Davis on Family Feud

Former Terrapin and current 49er Vernon Davis has certainly established that he can perform under the bright lights of NFL stadiums. But how does the two-time Pro Bowl tight end do while under pressure on the beloved TV show, Family Feud?

Not well. Not well at all, actually.

Davis, who appeared on the show on Sunday night with other NFL stars such as Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs, Chicago’s Matt Forte, and Denver’s DeMarcus Ware, stood out for his very entertaining — and incredibly wrong — answers.

Standing in the second position for the NFC squad — arguably the most important slot in any Family Feud team’s order — Davis came up with this hilarious reply on the game’s first question:

The strangest part of that exchange was how confident Davis seemed of his answer of “feet” in response to host Steve Harvey’s question, “If you’re good at reading body language, what part of a woman speaks the loudest?” He only starts laughing when the audience starts laughing, as he realizes that there was zero chance any of the 100 men surveyed for the question gave his response.

Soon after his embarrassing gaffe, however, Davis notched a clutch response to keep his team from getting their third strike. He then had a chance to prove his faulty first answer was a fluke later in the show by getting another one of Harvey’s questions right.

In a shocking turn of events, though, he actually came up with a reply far worse than his first one:

Coming up with “pers” after being asked to, “Name something that follows the word strip,” was the equivalent of following up a fumble with another fumble that was then taken the other way for a touchdown. But in a show like Family Feud, where awful answers are often better than correct ones, it was the night’s highlight.

In the end, the AFC players topped the NFC players and won $25,000 to go toward a charity of their choice, proving that the game was for a good cause.

As for Davis, he has no problem catching touchdowns in a helmet and pads with a linebacker draped all over him. But answering a survey in a suit and tie with Steve Harvey draped all over him?

That’s a different story.
