University officials hope to turn Byrd Stadium into a ‘zero-waste’ facility, as part of the Drive to Zero Waste inititiative.
In addition to dampening fans’ spirits, Maryland football’s 48-27 loss to Bowling Green last week has also taken its toll on ticket sales.
Tickets for the Terrapins’ matchup with South Florida this weekend are currently going for $3.00 on Stubhub, the lowest secondary-market price of any Division-I FBS game ticket this weekend, as the Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg pointed out.
These $3 seats are far from the front row. They’re in the 300 level, the nosebleeds. Not a super-exciting way to watch the Terps play a USF team they beat 24-17 last year.
On Maryland’s official website, tickets to Saturday’s game are running between $15-$35.
The student section is another ordeal altogether. After a usual strong first-half showing followed by an early second-half exit in the opener against Richmond, fans were forced to leave due to lightning against Bowling Green. They were invited back after a 25-minute delay, but those who elected to return to the stands must have been disappointed in how they spent their time. It’ll be interesting to watch how full the student section is at the beginning and throughout the game.

The average attendance for the Terps’ third home game in Byrd Stadium of the season from 2011-14 was 43,093. However, one of these games was against Virginia, a regional rival, and one was against No. 20 Ohio State. Both of these teams attracted more fans to Byrd Stadium than an opponent like USF will. Attendance at this year’s season opener was 38,117, while 36,332 people showed up, or at least bought tickets, to Maryland’s loss to Bowling Green. Expect that number to go down this week.
