Bobby’s Burger Palace has only been in College Park for about a year, but it’s already become a mainstay for those looking for a good burger. Many students looking for a gluten-free dish, however, can also enjoy the new spot.
As someone who is allergic to bread and most of the time fries, I was hesitant to go to Bobby’s. However, it has designated fryers for the French fries and sweet potato fries that allow those with gluten allergies to enjoy them.
There are the obvious aspects of a burger place that limit people with allergies. Bobby’s does not have gluten free buns, but it does have the Topless Burger Salad on its menu. The “Topless Burger” lets you take any burger you want and it goes on top of baby greens and balsamic dressing. You have control over what burger you get, and this way you don’t have to worry about the bun. Ordering this with the French fries and you can’t go wrong.
One of the coolest things that Bobby’s Burger Palace offers is that you can “crunchify” any burger you want. A burger is crunchified when potato chips are put on top of the burger. This adds an extra gluten free crunch to your already delicious burger.
You can ask for any of the burgers without the bun, but make sure to pay attention to the other toppings that it comes with, because they are not all gluten free. Just like I’ve said for other restaurants, don’t be afraid to ask questions. The ingredients of the sauces are not listed on the website, but ask to see if they know if the sauces are gluten free, because I’m sure some are and some aren’t.
The milkshakes are also a great thing to look at to complete your meal. Dipping French fries in milkshakes is one of the greatest tastes, and being able to do that knowing that it is gluten free is fantastic.
For me, having to eat gluten free is all about finding the “normal food” that everyone else can it and modifying my own to find the most similar thing. Bobby’s Burger Palace allows you to do that with the Topless Burger Salad, designated fryers for the French and sweet potato fries, and their delicious selection of milkshakes.
