Terps jumper Thea LaFond is competing in the NCAA championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., this weekend, along with Terps thrower Moriah Young.

Terrapins women’s track and field jumper Thea LaFond received All-American honors in the high jump and thrower Moriah Young finished 23rd in the shot put to conclude their NCAA championships at Hayward Field on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

One day after LaFond made second team All-American with a program-record triple jump distance on Friday, the sophomore set a personal record after clearing the 6-foot mark in the high jump. She finished 8th place in the event.

Young, a senior, could not improve from her personal-record 52-foot, 3.75-inch shot put throw she had during NCAA east regionals. Her best throw — 48 feet, 11.50 inches — came from her first attempt on Saturday, which was only enough to one spot above last place in the event.

With only two athletes representing the Terps for the NCAA championships, the team tallied one point combined throughout the weekend. LaFond’s 8th-place finish in the high jump accounted for the Terps’ only score.

Kansas captured the women’s national title.
