Students hook up in a variety of secret spots on the campus, including in parking garages.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Some students asked to have their last names omitted because of the sensitivity of the subject.

From the fountain on McKeldin Mall to parking lots to dorm showers, students seem to partake in sexual escapades just about everywhere. Although the stacks of McKeldin Library and various locales on the mall have long made the list of destination on-campus hookup spots, Terps get creative when they’re getting busy.

“I did it in a car in the visitor’s parking lot,” said Ambra, a freshman community health major.

Although hookup locales spanned the entire campus, car hookups were among the most common that students recounted, with Mowatt Lane Garage garnering several mentions.

Bus stops and buildings along the walk from Route 1 back to students’ dorms, including secluded spots just off the road, also see a lot of action.

When asked the last place she hooked up, freshman government and politics major Lashawn said, “In some trees on Route 1,” after her friends goaded her into answering.

“I saw people hooking up behind Frederick Hall… by generators, too. … There’s two back there, and people kind of hide there,” said Marilia Moura, an exchange student from Brazil majoring in engineering. “I also always see people hooking up at the bus stop when they’re drunk.”

Several students have come across secret hookups once back in their buildings.

The dorm showers were some of the most popular with students, tying with the library and the mall for the second-most references in two days of interviewing.

“My roommate was in the shower, and she heard two people having sex next to her,” said Lauren Heim, a freshman community health major.

Several other students recounted trysts in the showers but wouldn’t reveal their identities.

For the most adventurous Terps, or those with a connection to a sports team, the athletic fields and locker rooms pose an interesting challenge.

“I’m pretty sure people have hooked up in Byrd Stadium,” said Sindu Manoharan, a senior animal sciences major. Baseball’s Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium and Ludwig Field, home of the university soccer teams, also came up in conversation.

“I’ve heard of something at the kids playground, too,” said Josh Reinson, a freshman enrolled in letters and sciences.

And for the most daring of them all, several campus monuments made the bucket lists of students interviewed.

“I have a place I’d like to hook up: in the giant ‘M,’” said Matt Dunn, a foreign exchange student majoring in government and politics.
