Every week, staff writer James Crabtree-Hannigan will take a look at the careers of a number of former Maryland athletes embarking on professional careers in a variety of leagues. Every Monday, it’s former baseball players. The stats are from games through July 31.

Brett Cecil, LHP, Toronto Blue Jays

2016 stats: 0-6 W-L, 5.89 ERA, 18 strikeouts, 5 walks, 27 hits, 18.1 innings pitched

Skinny: Cecil made three appearances this week. He surrendered a single before forcing a groundout to end the eighth inning July 26 and struck out the only batter he faced in the eighth inning of the Blue Jays’ game four days later. He also logged a one-hit inning July 31.

Justin Maxwell, OF, Lotte Giants (Korean Baseball Organization)

2016 stats: .257 average, .422 on-base percentage, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 13 strikeouts, 8 walks

Skinny: Maxwell has now played 10 games for Lotte and is settling in to the new scenery. He hit his first home run July 26 and has had three multi-hit games in his first 10 outings.

Adam Kolarek, LHP, Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa Bay Rays Double-A affiliate)

2016 stats (AAA): 0-1, 2.70 ERA, 32 K, 19 BB, 15 H, 30 IP

Skinny: Kolarek moved between Triple-A Durham and Double-A Montgomery this week and made two appearances with Montgomery. He threw two scoreless innings July 24 against Birmingham and did the same July 28 against Pensacola. He earned the win for his efforts in the latter game.

LaMonte Wade, OF, Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota Twins High-A affiliate)

2016 stats (High-A): .330 AVG, .392 OBP, 2 HR, 21 RBI, 13 K, 8 BB

Skinny: Wade cooled down this week, going 3-for-18 over five games. He had a multi-hit game July 27 against Palm Beach, recording a double, RBI and run scored.

Jose Cuas, 3B, Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee Brewers High-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .195 AVG, .295 OBP, 4 HR, 23 RBI, 102 K, 36 BB

Skinny: Cuas went 4-for-18 with a pair of doubles this week. He also walked three times and notched his fourth steal of the season.

Jake Stinnett, RHP, Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs High-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 7-4, 4.53 ERA, 81 K, 33 BB, 97 H, 97.1 IP

Skinny: After struggling for almost all of July, Stinnett had a promising start this week. He threw four innings, his lowest of the season, but gave up only one unearned run. He also surrendered two hits, though he walked four batters and hit another. It was his best production in more than a month.

Brandon Lowe, 2B, Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .270 AVG, .371 OBP, 4 HR, 33 RBI, 56 K, 41 BB

Skinny: Lowe found his power stroke this week, hitting two home runs to give him four on the season. That power didn’t come at too much of a cost as he went 5-for-19. He also walked four times (one intentional) and had a double.

Zach Morris, LHP, Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 6-1, 2.26 ERA, 44 K, 20 BB, 47 H, 51.2 IP

Skinny: Morris continued with another scoreless inning this week. The BlueClaws have used him in many roles out of the bullpen, and he pitched three innings July 26, beginning in the fifth. He gave up four hits over the frames but didn’t allow a run and picked up two strikeouts. That was his fifth win of the season and gave him momentum to toss another three scoreless outings five days later.

Rob Galligan, LHP, Missoula Osprey (Arizona Diamondbacks Rookie Affiliate)

2016 stats: 0-0, 7.50 ERA, 7 K, 7 BB, 18 H, 12 IP

Skinny: Galligan had a rough outing July 25, giving up four runs (two earned) in two outs of work. He bounced back July 30 with a scoreless inning against the Helena Brewers.
