Brett Cecil, LHP, Toronto Blue Jays
2016 stats: 0-6 W-L, 6.11 ERA, 17 strikeouts, 5 walks, 26 hits, 17.2 innings pitched
Skinny: Cecil’s tough 2016 continued July 20, when he managed one out but surrendered three runs. He’s been better in his two outings since, though, getting two outs July 22 without giving up a baserunner. Sunday, he had another clean inning, walking one batter but picking up two strikeouts.
Justin Maxwell, OF, Lotte Giants (Korean Baseball Organization)
2016 stats: .261 average, .370 on-base percentage, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 6 strikeouts, 4 walks
Skinny: Maxwell made his Lotte debut Tuesday, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a walk. He’s fared well in the five games since, hitting a walk-off sacrifice fly Saturday against the Hanwha Eagles.
Adam Kolarek, LHP, Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays Triple-A affiliate)
2016 stats (AAA): 0-1, 2.70 ERA, 32 K, 19 BB, 15 H, 30 IP
Skinny: Kolarek has spent most of the season with Triple-A Durham, but was demoted to Double-A Montgomery on July 16. He pitched the next day, giving up two unearned runs over 1.1 innings. He added two scoreless frames July 24.
LaMonte Wade, OF, Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota Twins High-A affiliate)
2016 stats (High-A): .371 AVG, .439 OBP, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 7 K, 7 BB
Skinny: Wade has been on fire at each level this season. He earned a promotion to Fort Myers at the beginning of the month, and he’s been tearing up the Florida State League since. This week, he went 9-for-22 (.409) and had a .500 on-base percentage. He walked four times while striking out just once. He hit his second home run with the team on July 19.
Jose Cuas, 3B, Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee Brewers High-A affiliate)
2016 stats: .193 AVG, .290 OBP, 4 HR, 22 RBI, 97 K, 33 BB
Skinny: Cuas picked up two RBIs this week despite getting just three hits. He struck out 13 times and walked twice, going 3-for-24 overall.
Jake Stinnett, RHP, Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs High-A affiliate)
2016 stats: 7-4, 4.73 ERA, 78 K, 29 BB, 95 H, 93.1 IP
Skinny: Stinnett’s rough July continued this week, giving up seven runs (five earned) over five innings July 21 against Wilmington. It was his fourth loss of the season and fourth consecutive start giving up at least five runs.
Brandon Lowe, 2B, Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays Single-A affiliate)
2016 stats: .274 AVG, .374 OBP, 2 HR, 31 RBI, 52 K, 37 BB
Skinny: Lowe’s franchise-record 18-game hit streak ended last Monday, but he still managed production this week. He went 4-for-18 with a pair of doubles and walks. He picked up four RBIs and struck out twice.
Zach Morris, LHP, Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies Single-A affiliate)
2016 stats: 4-1, 2.56 ERA, 40 K, 20 BB, 41 H, 45.2 IP
Skinny: Morris threw one scoreless inning this week, striking out two and walking one en route to his fifth save of the season. In his first two outings this season, Morris gave up seven runs over 2.1 innings. Since then, he’s thrown 43.1 innings and has given up just six earned runs, a 1.25 ERA.
Rob Galligan, LHP, Missoula Osprey (Arizona Diamondbacks Rookie Affiliate)
2016 stats: 0-0, 6.97 ERA, 6 K, 4 BB, 14 H, 10.1 IP
Skinny: Galligan gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits in his one inning of work this week.
