Every week, staff writer James Crabtree-Hannigan will take a look at the careers of a number of former Maryland athletes embarking on professional careers in a variety of leagues. Every Thursday, it’s former men’s lacrosse players. The stats are from games through July 12.
Major League Lacrosse held its All-Star game in Fullerton, California, this weekend with Team Riptide edging out Team Rolling Thunder, 21-20. These six former Terps earned selections:
Joe Walters, Midfielder, Chesapeake Bayhawks (Team Riptide)
2016 stats: 8 GP, 18 goals, 21 assists, 11 ground balls, 45 shots, .400% shooting percentage
Skinny: Walters is a 10-year MLL veteran and eight-time All-Star. This year, he is tied for seventh in the league with 39 points and tied for second with 21 assists. He scored two goals and had three assists in the All-Star Game, tying for the most points in the game.
Brian Phipps, Goaltender, Chesapeake Bayhawks (Team Rolling Thunder)
2016 stats: 10 GP, 128 GA, 151 SV, .541 SV%
Skinny: Phipps has been playing in the MLL since 2011, but this was his All-Star Game debut. He played the first half for the Rolling Thunder and faced 19 shots on goal, allowing 9 goals and making 10 saves. He also had an assist. He left the game with the Rolling Thunder leading, 15-9.
Jeremy Sieverts, Midfielder, Denver Outlaws (Team Rolling Thunder)
2016 stats: 10 GP, 15 goals, 11 assists, 14 ground balls, 71 shots, .211% shooting percentage
Skinny: Playing in his fifth All-Star game, Sieverts had a highlight-reel, behind-the-back goal, an assist and three ground balls.
Drew Snider, Midfielder, Denver Outlaws (Team Rolling Thunder)
2016 stats: 9 GP, 28 goals, 8 assists, 25 ground balls, 68 shots, .412% shooting percentage
Skinny: Snider’s 28 goals is tied for fifth this season in the MLL and he was rewarded by being named to his second consecutive and third overall All-Star Game. He had two assists and secured one ground ball.
Michael Ehrhardt, Defender, Charlotte Hounds (Team Rolling Thunder)
2016 stats: 9 GP, 3 goals, 0 assists, 28 ground balls, 11 shots, .273% shooting percentage
Skinny: In his first All-Star Game, Ehrhardt had an assist and two ground balls.
John Haus, Midfielder, Charlotte Hounds (Team Riptide)
2016 stats: 9 GP, 25 goals, 5 assists, 12 ground balls, 69 shots, .362% shooting percentage
Skinny: This was the second straight year Haus was an All-Star. He took two shots on goal but did not earn a point in the game.
