Terrapins women’s basketball guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and center Brionna Jones earned All-America honors from the Associated Press, according to a release Monday.
Walker-Kimbrough made the third team while Jones was an honorable mention. The juniors led the Terps (31-4) to the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles this season and helped coach Brenda Frese’s squad earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Walker-Kimbrough led the Terps in scoring with 19.5 points per game and finished this season leading the nation in three-point shooting (54.5 percent). She became the second player in program history to eclipse 40 points in a single game after dropping 41 against Purdue on Feb. 2, and her 681 points this year were five points shy of the single-season school record.
Jones, who doubled as a first-team All-Big Ten performer with Walker-Kimbrough, averaged 15.2 points and 9.8 rebounds. The 6-foot-3 player from Havre de Grace had the highest field-goal percentage (66.5) in the country.
After two straight Final Four appearances, the Terps failed to reach the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2011 after suffering a 74-65 loss to No. 7-seeded Washington in the Round of 32. Walker-Kimbrough led the team in scoring with 17 points, but Jones finished with a season-low four points on 2-for-7 shooting.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association named both players as All-Region nominees for its 10-member All-America team. Walker-Kimbrough is also one of 15 finalists for the Wade Trophy, which the WBCA gives to the nation’s best player.
