A day after the Terrapins men’s basketball team lost its regular-season finale, coach Mark Turgeon’s squad dropped four spots to No. 18 in the latest Associated Press Poll, released Monday.
This is the Terps’ lowest ranking of the season, and they have dropped four of their past six contests.
The Terps began the season at No. 3 and rose to No. 2 twice. But the Terps have been in a free fall since they claimed the No. 2 spot on Feb. 8.
Thursday on Senior Night, the Terps beat Illinois, 81-55. But Sunday they fell, 80-62, at No. 10 Indiana, the Big Ten regular-season champions. The Terps haven’t beaten a ranked team on the road since 2008.
The Terps earned a No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Friday, they will face the winner of a second-round game between No. 6-seed Wisconsin and No. 11-seed Nebraska/No. 14-seed Rutgers.
No. 2 Michigan State, No. 13 Purdue and No. 20 Iowa are the other Big Ten teams in the AP rankings.
