In its final game of the District Invite, the Terrapins softball team needed to beat Columbia, which it lost to twice last weekend, in order to notch its first win of the tournament.
The Terps did that in the form of a dramatic 5-4 win with catcher Kristina Dillard recording a walk-off single.
Freshman pitcher Sami Main made her first career start and held Columbia scoreless through the first two frames. But she allowed three runs on four hits in the third inning and was removed in the sixth after allowing a solo blast.
Main, who entered the game with a 10.50 ERA, finished with five innings pitched, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Infielder Corey Schwartz, who hit third in the Terps lineup, went 3-for-4 at the plate. She recorded an RBI double in the first, and scored on an RBI double from Dillard two batters later to help the Terps take an early 2-0 lead.
Outfielder Kylie Datil continued her hot start to the season with an RBI single in the second. She came in hitting .340 with five RBIs.
Columbia tied the score 3-3 in the third, though, on a passed ball and two-run double off Main. The Lions then used a long ball to go ahead 4-3 in the sixth.
The Terps loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to score.
The team threatened again in the seventh. With two outs, Schwartz hit a single and utility player Hannah Dewey drew a walk. Dillard delivered a clutch walk-off single to right field that scored Schwartz, and after a throwing error Dewey, to win the game.
The Terps (6-13) avoided a 0-4 District Invite showing with the victory and won their first tournament-ending game of the season.
