University Police responded to reports of a Title IX-related incident, theft and assault, among other incidents, this past week, according to police reports.
Title IX-related incident
University Police responded to Boteler Lane on Sunday at 4:12 p.m. for a possible domestic dispute. The person who reported the incident used the UMD Guardian app to notify police of a loud verbal argument taking place between a couple, police spokeswoman Sgt. Rosanne Hoaas said.
Upon arrival, an officer spoke to both parties and issued the man, who is not affiliated with the University of Maryland, an immediate denial of access to campus property, meaning he will be arrested if he steps onto campus before successfully appealing.
The woman, a university student, was given resources from the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct, according to the report.
About an hour later, the man returned, and officers responded to reports that the couple was arguing again.
The man claimed he was waiting for a bus and retrieving property that belonged to him.
Officers made sure he left and warned that he would be arrested if he returned.
Other incident
On Friday at 7:32 p.m., a University Police officer responded to Centreville Hall, where a person noticed a condom filled with a white substance and a drawing of male genitalia on the door of a student’s room.
Officers later contacted the victim, a male student, who was not in his room at the time of the incident, according to the report.
The student was given information from the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct.
Police are still investigating the incident.
Theft
On Feb. 11 at 11:43 p.m., an officer spotted two men carrying a framed whiteboard and metal stand near the intersection of Knox Road and Route 1.
The officer determined one of the suspects had stolen the whiteboard from a campus building.
Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Reed Olsen Bjorntvedt of Stevensville. He was arrested and charged with theft of less than $100.
He stole the board out of the Art Gallery in the Art-Sociology Building, according to the report.
Fraud
University Police responded to Xfinity Center on Friday at 9:20 p.m. for a report of fraud.
During the game, one of the building’s concession stands received a counterfeit $20 bill. At this time, it is unknown who used the fraudulent bill, which was taken for evidence.
Police will contact the Secret Service regarding this case, which remains active. It is common practice to involve the Secret Service in cases involving currency.
Assault
University Police responded to the North Campus Dining Hall on Friday at 4:10 p.m. to aid an injured woman.
The victim, who has no affiliation with this university, was walking near the dining hall when she was struck in the head by a bar of soap thrown from a nearby dorm.
The woman suffered no serious injuries and refused to be transported by ambulance, according to the report.
Officers canvassed the area and plan to review camera footage as the investigation continues.
