The Terrapins men’s basketball rose four spots to No. 4 in the latest Associated Press Poll released Monday after two wins this past week, including a 74-68 victory over then-No. 3 Iowa on Thursday.
The Hawkeyes fell to No. 5.
Before Thursday, the Terps hadn’t beaten a ranked team this season. They suffered losses at No. 2 North Carolina and at No. 10 Michigan State, the other two ranked opponents they have faced.
The Terps rebounded from that loss to the Spartans on Jan. 23 with the thrilling victory Thursday over the Hawkeyes, who entered the contest unbeaten in Big Ten play. Sunday, the Terps beat Ohio State 66-61 to secure their eighth Big Ten win of the season. The Terps (19-3, 8-2 Big Ten) rank third in the conference, behind Iowa and No. 22 Indiana.
Wednesday, the Terps travel to Nebraska before they welcome another ranked opponent to Xfinity Center on Saturday, No. 18 Purdue. The Boilermakers are fifth in the Big Ten.
After the loss to Michigan State, the Terps dropped to No. 8, their lowest ranking this season. But the win over Iowa has propelled them back up the rankings. They began the season at No. 3 and reached No. 2 at one point.
