Virginia Tech running back Trey Edmunds has transferred to this university and will play for the Terrapins football team next season, the program announced Wednesday.
Edmunds, who graduated from Virginia Tech in December, will be a redshirt senior in 2016. The Danville, Virginia, native had 957 career rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns on 234 carries for the Hokies.
As a sophomore, Edmunds had a career-high 675 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns in 10 starts. He has also caught 17 passes for 155 yards in 2013.
The Terps lost their starting running back from last season, senior Brandon Ross. The top two returning running backs, Wes Brown and Ty Johnson, combined to rush for 567 yards. Ross had 958 yards in his final campaign in College Park.
Edmunds’ father, Ferrell Edmunds, Jr., was a Terps tight end from 1983-1987. The third round pick played in the NFL for seven season and was a two-time Pro Bowl selection.
While Edmunds will play for the Terps next season, his two younger brothers are still at Virginia Tech.
