Terrapins men’s basketball guard Melo Trimble was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 on Wednesday.
The honor signifies Trimble is one of the frontrunners for college basketball’s most prestigious individual award based on performances through the first half of the season. The list was complied by national college basketball experts, and Trimble is joined by stars like Michigan State forward Denzel Valentine, North Carolina guard Marcus Paige and Louisiana State freshman forward Ben Simmons.
While Trimble had a career-low two points in a 70-67 loss at Michigan on Tuesday, the sophomore leads the Terps in scoring (14.1 points per game), assists (5.5 per game), steals (1.4 per game) and free-throw percentage (87 percent). He’s helped lead the Terps to their best start in school history – they were 15-1 before losing to the Wolverines on Tuesday.
The 40th Wooden Award will be given during ESPN College Basketball Awards Show on the weekend of April 7th-9th. Past winners include Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Kevin Durant.
