Terrapins men’ lacrosse assistant coach Kevin Conry is the 2015 Assistant Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced Monday.
Conry oversaw the team’s defensive unit that finished the season ranked first in the nation in scoring defense. The Terps allowed an average of 7.1 goals per game, including a span of seven wins from Feb. 28 to April 4 when they limited opponents to 30 total goals.
It marked the third time in his three years as the Terps defensive coordinator Conry’s unit finished in the top ten.
Conry also helped goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr acclimate to his first year as a starter en route to winning the Kelly Award for the country’s best netminder as a junior. Bernlohr and defender Casey Ikeda ended 2015 as first team All-Americans, two of the 10 All-American campaigns Conry has coached.
“I am so happy that Coach Conry has been honored with this outstanding achievement,” head coach John Tillman said in a release. “His tireless work ethic and commitment to the program have made him more than deserving of this award, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him on out staff at Maryland.”
