Students can take the Green line to reach the Mall at Prince Georges Plaza for their holiday shopping needs.

With Thanksgiving behind us and more holidays on the way, students at this university need places to find good deals to do their holiday gift shopping.

One perk of living on a college campus is the variety of transportation methods students can take to get to their shopping destination.

Erika Quito, a senior family science and psychology major, said one of her go-to malls in this area is the Westfield Wheaton mall.

“This mall has cheap, yet good quality stores like H&M, Forever 21, Victoria’s Secret, Aéropostale and more,” Quito said.

For students without cars on the campus, they can go to the College Park Metro Station, take the Green Line train to the Fort Totten Metro Station, connect to the Red Line toward Glenmont and get off right in front of the Wheaton mall.

If students don’t want to travel that far to do their shopping, Dennys Amaya, a junior public health science major, said the Beltway Plaza mall would be a great place to go.

“The plaza has stores like Target, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx and Ross,” Amaya said. “The great thing about this plaza is that it is very close to campus, and students don’t have to worry about going too far away from campus to get great gifts.”

To get to Beltway Plaza, students can take the 81 Metrobus toward Cherry Hill Park Campground and get off at Cherrywood Lane and Greenbelt Road, which stops right in front of the plaza.

Gabe Fernandez, a senior finance and marketing major, said he would go to Prince George’s Plaza to do some of his shopping.

“My favorite thing about P.G. Plaza is the mixture of stores they have,” Fernandez said. “They have a Macy’s, which is a nice higher-end sale store, but they also have a Gap and Footlocker, which are more affordable stores.”

To get to Prince George’s Plaza, students can go to the College Park Metro Station and take the Green Line to the Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station.

Daniela Lin, who likes staying close to the campus, recommends the newly opened TargetExpress, located on Route 1.

“I like that I can find good quality beauty products there, along with other things that are great for cute DIY gifts,” said Lin, a junior physiology and neurobiology major.

If students don’t want to leave the campus at all to do their holiday shopping, they just have to head to Stamp Student Union and go to the University Book Center, as Liz Lacson, a junior community health major, did.

“It’s the perfect place to shop, because they sell so many things like books, cute socks, umbrellas, posters, lotions and more,” Lacson said.
