POSTS IN THE SHELL
After trudging through four and a half seasons, of MTV’s “Awkward.,” all viewers got was mediocrity. And it’s upsetting.
The show is a very typical high school drama. Unpopular girl Jenna Hamilton has a crush on popular jock Matty McKibben. The two are camp counselors at the same summer camp one summer, and he takes her virginity in a closet. School starts back up and awkward stuff ensures. Jenna has a talkative, overly-girly best friend. Matty has this other jock friend, and also gets along well with the popular mean girl. The best character was the zingy Asian friend who was later dismissed from the show!
What makes this show appealing? Is it Jenna’s struggle? Do we even want to see her succeed? No.
The other characters develop well. Jenna is so boring and all her problems are self-inflicted. She ruins all her relationships single-handedly, and you’re forced to watch as it happens.
Matty stays attractive, but faces issues with his parents. The popular mean girl remains hilarious and witty, but has to deal with problems with her rude personality and family. The talkative friend watches her life crumble from her inability to tell the truth.
Though the drama is overly done and cliche, it’s still #relatable, despite all the characters’ annoying tendencies.
The midseason finale ended with Jenna and Matty finally together and everyone ready to leave for college. It seemed too … right. They teased problems in the next half of the final season, but there’s going to be a time skip and it almost feels forced.
The show could have ended right there at episode 12 but didn’t. They’re keeping us in “Awkward.” hell forever and we won’t even try to leave.
Honestly, if you’re feeling bored and you want to start something new, pick a show that isn’t “Awkward.”
