POSTS IN THE SHELL

Video game streamers are the friends who will sit next to you while you do homework without getting bored.

My favorite source of background noise while I’m working on a paper, eating dinner or just laying in bed are League of Legends streamers. Some are more well known than others, and each has their own quirks. While some might watch Kaceytron for her … assets rather than her skills, others will watch Nightblue3 to pick up awesome jungling tactics.

My three faves never fail to keep me entertained.

Hai of Cloud9

Hai is the former mid-laner (and current support/jungler) for Cloud9’s team and he’s always been an excellent shot-caller. He directs his team and leads them to victory, taking his role as the captain. Hai is known for hosting ranked 5’s on his stream, normally consisting of other pros or casters from the League Championship Series. Hilarity ensues amid his aggressive play-making. Seeing pros all work together to play the game and getting to hear all their banter is rare, but Hai lets us in. His tone-deaf renditions of Top-40 hits are also some of my favorite things on this planet.

hi im Gosu

Gosu is truly something different. For one, he’s not a professional player — he’s never played on any stage. He also doesn’t have a face-cam, nor does he use a microphone, so nobody knows what he looks or sounds like. (Some people like to joke that he’s actually a she, though he’s said repeatedly that he’s male.) The thing we do know about Gosu? He’s a mechanical god. His plays on AD carry are a feat to be seen, topping the front page of Reddit on a regular basis. He’s known for his Vayne skills, though I wouldn’t want to face off against him as any other champion, either. His music choices are also incredible — you can listen yourself via Spotify.

Doublelift of Counter Logic Gaming

Doublelift is definitely one of the most entertaining streamers in the League community. Not only is he extremely interactive with his chat, taking advice and responding to questions, but his mechanics are pretty good as well. His personality is relatable — he gets frustrated, he laughs at stupid mistakes, and he’s always cracking jokes. I’ve watched a lot of streamers, and he’s one of the only ones who actually responds to his viewers on the regular. His loud reactions to sweet plays made by him or friends will always make me cringe, but I keep watching nevertheless. Full disclosure: My steady viewership led to me being a moderator of his Twitch chat, but I was a fan long before that.

Whether you’re watching to learn how to play League of Legends or if you’re just watching to see a high-level player do what they do best, these three always deliver.
