When West Virginia hosts Maryland football this Saturday, the Mountaineers’ll look to pick up a win against a 2-1 Terrapins bunch fresh off a victory over South Florida.
Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, when it comes to spelling words that middle school students find easy, their fans have already taken a loss this week.
Take a look at these two sides of a sign that a WVU student tweeted Monday and see whether you notice anything awry:

Man, whoever created that sign came so close to doing so without any errors, but got tripped up at the 1-yard line when attempting to spell out “border.” Someone needs to throw a flag on that mishap for “failure to use spell check.”
What separates a good writer from a great writer? The ability to discern the difference between a pair of homophones.
Kickoff is this Saturday at 3 p.m.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Upon further review, both the use of homonyms and homophones to describe “boarder” and “border” is acceptable for practical purposes, according to the Merriam-Wester’s Dictionary of English Usage. Homophones is the more precise term. For more information, please read John E. McIntyre‘s discussion in The Baltimore Sun.
