Goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr makes a save during the Terps’ 8-7 victory over Yale at Byrd Stadium on May 9, 2015.

Terrapins men’s lacrosse goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr has won the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best netminder.

Bernlohr, a first-team All-American who leads the country with a 6.57 goals against average, hopes to lead the Terps to its first national championship in 40 years this weekend. Coach John Tillman’s squad plays Johns Hopkins in the NCAA semifinal Saturday.

Former Terps goalkeeper Niko Amato won the same award last season, marking the first time in more than 50 years that teammates have earned the distinction in consecutive seasons.

Bernlohr, the sixth Terp to capture the honor, served as a backup for three years behind Amato.
