Coach Brenda Frese calls out plays from the sideline during the Terps’ 85-70 win over Princeton in the second round the NCAA Tournament at Xfinity Center on March 23, 2015.

The Terrapins women’s basketball team has hired assistant coaches Bett Shelby and Bryce McKey, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.

Shelby most recently served as an assistant coach with Virginia Tech for two years. She oversaw recruiting with the Hokies and helped them land ESPN five-star recruit Kelly Koshuta for the upcoming season.

McKey, meanwhile, worked as an assistant coach at Xavier for the past four seasons. He also handled recruiting while additionally dealing with scouting and other tasks.

“Both Bett and Bryce made it very clear to me that Maryland is a destination job for them,” head coach Brenda Frese said in a release. “This is somewhere they’ve both had their eye on and they both jumped at the chance to work here. They’re both energetic, young, full of ideas and entering the prime of their careers as coaches. That’s really exciting to add to our program.”

Frese had two vacancies on her staff after associate head coach Tina Langley left earlier this month for the head-coaching job at Rice. A day after Langley left, the school announced assistant coach Marlin Chinn had accepted the head job at Florida International.

Shelby and McKey join assistant coach Shay Robinson, who accepted the job last offseason, in working for Frese. The Terps are coming off their second straight Final Four appearance for the first time in program history.
