The Terrapins baseball team secured a series victory over Appalachian State on Sunday with a five-run third inning and a solid start from Brian Shaffer.

Shaffer allowed two runs in six innings and center fielder LaMonte Wade led the No. 16 Terps with a 2-for-4 performance, two RBIs and one run in an 8-2 win in Emerson, Georgia.

In the third, the Terps (7-2) batted around, and Wade opened the scoring with a two-RBI single. Two batters later, designated hitter Nick Cieri drove in two more runs with a single to right. The last run of the inning came on catcher Kevin Martir’s RBI single.

The Terps added to the lead in the fifth. With one out, they scored three straight runs off an error, a single and a sacrifice fly.

Those eight runs provided plenty of cushion for Shaffer, who bounced back from a bad start last Sunday. In his second career start, the freshman allowed four hits, struck out six and issued no walks.
