What’s a college town without college bars? Boring, that’s what it is. And in College Park, we students have several options in the bar department. But without a doubt, Looney’s Pub is the best bar in town.
The biggest factor that elevates Looney’s above all other spots is that it’s more than just a “college bar” — it’s a sports bar. Everywhere you look you can see at least three different TVs airing different sporting events or sports channels. If you are an out-of-state student, chances are you root for an out-of-state sports team. Most other places would leave you in a bind, with only a few TVs — many of them dedicated to local sports. But not Looney’s. With seemingly endless channel options, you are almost guaranteed to see your team playing somewhere in the dining area.
And speaking of dining, the food at Looney’s is the best in town. From burgers to wings to salads, this place has you covered. The french fries are some of the best I’ve ever tasted and the taco salad is always a good choice. No other restaurant, let alone bar, in the area has food nearly as good as Looney’s. And with daily specials, you’re sure to find something you like and something to try next time. If you live in The Varsity and don’t feel like eating in the restaurant, they will deliver. Just give them a call and they’ll bring your order right to your door.
Tired of waiting 20 minutes for one of the two bartenders to get you a simple drink? Not a problem at Looney’s. Most nights they have at least four bartenders grabbing drinks and serving customers. This is a huge selling point if you’re like me and hate being patient, waiting and wasting time in general.
Another reason to go to Looney’s instead of the other bars in town is the atmosphere. Rarely does the dance floor ever become a madhouse like Cornerstone Grill and Loft or, God forbid, R.J. Bentley’s. If dancing isn’t your thing, there is an outdoor patio to relax and talk with your friends or make some new ones. Opening line to meet new people: “Hey, isn’t this the best bar in College Park?”
Theme nights are a big attraction at Looney’s as well. Country Night is always a good time, featuring live bands and country music to break up the monotony of the normal bar soundtrack. Want even more fun? How about weekly beer pong tournaments. Not your style? What about restaurant-wide trivia competitions with the winners getting discounted food?
For all these reasons, Looney’s is by far the most well-rounded and well-designed bar in town. From great food to great service, there is no reason not to make Looney’s your go-to College Park bar.
