Forward Jake Pace of the Terrapins men’s soccer team won a gold medal for the United States at this summer’s Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Pace, a redshirt senior who coach Sasho Cirovski named captain at the start of preseason early last week, scored four goals in wins over Denmark, Mexico, Germany and Canada.
The squad beat Argentina in penalty kicks in to secure the gold medal. Team USA’s only loss of the tournament was a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Uruguay.
In 24 games as a redshirt junior for the Terps in 2012, Pace notched five goals and three assists.
The Maccabiah is an international Jewish athletic event which is often referred to as the “Jewish Olympics.” The games are open to Jewish athletes of any nationality as well as all citizens of Israel, regardless of religion.
