Porter Robinson

As finals rear their ugly heads, there is still time for one last hurrah (or two!) before going home for winter break. And no, I don’t mean Club McKeldin.

On Tuesday Dec. 18, Dave Matthews and his band will perform at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, with tickets starting at $53. Although the band will be featuring its most recent album, Away from the World, it will certainly be complemented by old favorites. The iconic extended-version songs the band is known to play at live shows are sure to reappear, maybe even with some new additions from Away from the World.

For those who are still in the area post-finals, Porter Robinson and Cosmic Gate will perform at Echostage on the Dec. 22. Tickets are $30.

Robinson is widely regarded as a baby of the EDM field, but the 20-year-old Chapel Hill native rivals more seasoned veterans in the field.

Robinson started producing music at age 13, imitating sounds he heard in video games like Dance Dance Revolution. His first single landed him the #1 spot on Beatport’s Electro House chart. His most recent single. “Language,” is making its way into the sets of DJs everywhere and the Top 25 Most Played playlist in my iTunes. Robinson is number 40 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs in 2012.

Coming in exactly one spot above Porter Robinson on the list is Cosmic Gate at number 39. The German duo is starting to veer away from the heavy trance and move toward a more energetic, house style. Their newest single, “Calm Down”, features Emma Hewwit, who was recently named #1 on Beatsmedia’s Top 50 Best Vocalists in 2012.

Happy finals, everyone!
