Stamp Student Union’s food court
Stamp Student Union’s food court is central spot on campus for students to quickly grab a meal. There are many different options, but for someone with a food allergy, they quickly become limited.
The food court has ten different options. However, I can only eat at three: Taco Bell, Salad Works, and the Sushi. Even though there are choices, there aren’t many when you realize you can’t have most of the food there.
When you’re in a rush, Taco Bell is great. The hard shell corn tortillas are gluten free and the tacos are great. In addition, it also added the Cantina Bowl, which is similar to a Chipotle burrito bowl. It is available in steak or veggie and is a healthier option than the tacos.
If you are in the mood for something even healthier, that automatically knocks out Taco Bell, because while it might be delicious, there are better options than even the Cantina Bowl. Therefore, your only option is really Salad Works. Even at Salad Works, one of the options for a salad is pasta.
Each side for the salad is in its own container and tongs, but for some reason, the pasta gets everywhere. Obviously, I would never order pasta on my salad, but every time I order one, I find myself picking out pieces of pasta anyway.
The Sushi is also good and has a bunch of different options. The Sushi is from Panda Express, and is the only option from Panda Express other than plain white rice.
I think it is worth looking into more gluten-free options to be added to the food court. Even having Wendy’s instead of McDonald’s helps people with allergies, because at most Wendy’s the French fries are gluten free, which is always fun to find.
More and more people are diagnosed with different allergies all of the time, and it is time to make eating on campus easier for students. Most of the time it is easier just to stop at Stamp for lunch when you have a short break, and there should be easy options for everyone, and shouldn’t be as limited as it currently is.
