Mac Miller – Thoughts From A Balcony
This is by far my favorite song right now. Mac Miller has been making big moves since dropping his chart topping debut album, Blue Slide Park, last November and is showing no signs of slowing down. Between his talented collaborations and innovative lyrics, Miller has shown the music industry how hard work pays off. His hit single “Donald Trump” has garnered over 68 million views to date on YouTube and it’s crazy that he’s accomplished that feat at only 20 years old. “Thoughts From A Balcony” (2) brings a very relaxed feel and is currently at the top of every one of my midterm study playlists. This track is off his highly criticized mixtape, Macadelic, but it definitely shows more maturity. I highly suggest you grab the song and you can download the full Macadelic mixtape for free.
Boyce Avenue feat. Taylor Ward– Fix You (Acoustic Cover)
I enjoy finding surprising covers of smash hit songs and when a friend of mine directed me to Boyce Avenue’s acoustic cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You,” I couldn’t believe my ears. The group, which is comprised of brothers Alejandro, Daniel and Fabian Manzano, has released 11 EPs in five years and brings an acoustic rock feel to their music and it’s something anyone can relax to. Honestly, this is the best remix of “Fix You” that I’ve ever heard. When I first saw it a couple weeks ago it had fewer than 1 million views on YouTube and it’s amassed over 2.5 million since then. This is a relatively unknown band up to this point, but they’re on the come up and you should jump over to their YouTube page to see what they have to offer.
Cris Cab – My Life
Cris Cab has been on my radar for the past year and I like the energy he brings to his music. Having been mentored by Pharrell Williams and Wyclef Jean, this Miami, FL native produces a mix of pop, reggae and soul that keeps my head bobbing. Cris Cab officially got on the map after releasing a laidback cover of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow,” which picked up an impressive 100,000 views in its first week. “My Life” is one of his original songs that has a cool combination of instrumentals and brings a great vibe. Be on the look out for Cris Cab’s new EP, Rise, which is coming out October 9th for Mercury Records and find more of his original work.
