Former Terrapin tight end Vernon Davis proved yesterday what everyone who watched him knew all along.
The man is an athletic marvel.
Davis ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash and bench pressed 225 pounds 33 times in the NFL’s scouting combine, an event giving prospective draftees a chance to showcase their athletic abilities to team officials.
Pure athletic talent is what Davis was known for while playing for Maryland. Davis ran the same 40-yard time as Miami wide receiver Sinorice Moss – who is the brother of Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss. It was the all-time fastest 40-yard time for a tight end according to www.footballsfuture.com. The second-fastest tight end was Georgia’s Leonard Pope at 4.62.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 253-pound tight end is projected to be the top tight end taken in the draft and among the top-15 overall. He averaged more than 17 yards per catch and 79 yards gained per game in his third and final year as a Terp last season.
