Last week, Diversions fawned over Claire Danes, a semi-sexual semi-icon from our middle-school days, when we wore JNCO jeans, Airwalks, Pennywise T-shirts although we have never once stepped foot on a skateboard.

Here comes another: Gwen Stefani.

That yellow tank-topped chick from California who used to front No Doubt (the Diversions desk still spins Tragic Kingdom like a mother) rolls into the area tomorrow with the Black Eyed Peas in tow. They’re playing the Patriot Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Stefani, whose hit “Cool” is in unceasing rotation on every station on the planet right now, is touring in support of her new album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby., which is a dumb name for an album, but we’ll let her address that tomorrow. We hate most of what she’s done recently, and we dislike this new “street” thing she’s got going on. Seriously, “Hollaback Girl” is frickin’ awful. She does, however, have some of the biggest names in hip-hop on her most recent record: Dre, The Neptunes, Andre 3000, etc.

But the best thing Stefani’s been involved in recently is the No Doubt greatest hits record she dropped a few years back, The Singles 1992-2003. She’d better reach into that bag tomorrow.

The Black Eyed Peas take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, opening for Stefani. Tickets start at $55. For more information, call (703) 993-3000.
