The Terrapins women’s lacrosse team held off a scrappy Penn squad Saturday to pull out a 15-10 victory at Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Attacker Alex Aust paced the Terps with seven points on six goals and an assist. Midfielder Katie Schwarzmann notched a hat trick to help out the cause.
After getting off to a 10-2 lead with 5:09 left in the first period, Penn rattled off four straight goals spanning both halves, including a nifty buzzer beater from midfielder Maddie Poplawski
The Quakers and Terps traded jabs throughout the rest of the contest, as neither team was able to mount any serious runs. Though the teams tied, 5-5, in the second period, the Terps’ five-goal first-half lead ultimately proved too much for the Quakers to overcome.
Midfielder Iris Williamson wreaked havoc on the Terps all day, notching a team-high four goals. The Terps didn’t have an answer for the physical freshman.
The Terps will stay in College Park to take on North Carolina next Saturday. The No. 3 Tar Heels are coming off of a big 12-11 overtime victory over Duke.
