Alyssa Thomas

With her career with the Terrapins women’s basketball team nearing its end, Alyssa Thomas continues to move up the in record books and solidify her place as one of the program’s greats.

And after the No. 8 Terps’ final home game of the regular season, she will reach another achievement that puts her up among the program’s upper-echelon. During Senior Day against Virginia Tech on March 2, the forward’s No. 25 will be hung up in the Comcast Center rafters, making Thomas the ninth player in team history to have her jersey honored.

“This is such a surprise and an honor for me,” Thomas said in a release. “To be in the rafters with so many great players is amazing. I just want to thank my teammates and all the people that have supported me for so long. None of this would happen if it weren’t for them.”

The two-time ACC Player of the Year and All-American will join former stars Kristi Toliver, Marissa Coleman, Shay Doron, Laura Harper, Crystal Langhorne, Vicky Bullet, Tara Heiss and Jasmina Perazic as honorees.

Thomas is 97 points, 103 rebounds and two double-doubles shy of breaking the Terps’ scoring, rebounding and double-doubles, which are all currently held by Langhorne. She is also the all-time leader in triple-doubles among men or women, recording three this season.

Thomas currently averages 18.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this year.

“Words can’t even describe all Alyssa has done for this program in her four years,” coach Brenda Frese said in a release. “The first time I saw Alyssa play way back in high school, I knew she could be one of the greatest players to ever come through this program.”
