Change has been more than just progress for The Breakfast. It has almost been a way of life. In their seven-and-a-half-year career, the band has gone through two of the tougher changes bands can face together. Originally known as Psychedelic Breakfast, the band dropped the moniker because they were much more than just a Psychedelic band.
This summer, the band faced an even bigger change. When founding keyboardist Jordan Giangreco announced he was leaving the band “to pursue other interests.” Rather than folding up shop, the former quartet reduced to a trio with lead singer and guitarist Tim Palmieri adding keyboards to his onstage duties until the band finds a suitable replacement.
Last year, the band released its fourth album Real Radio, a merging of most of their unique styles.
The Breakfast fits into the jam band envelope, merging straight ahead rock, progressive rock, blues, funk, reggae, psychedelia and pop.
The band is no stranger to improvising and stretching out their songs live, and they also change up the set list on any given night. They’ve been known to play songs in an inverted fashion – playing the ending half of a song, then playing the beginning.
Bassist Ron Spears and drummer Adrian Tramontano share vocal and songwriting duties with the aforementioned Palmieri.
The band’s songs range from southern-rockin’ “Fairy,” to the instrumental epic “The Grand Scheme Of Things.” They’ve also been known to play a wide range of covers, including songs from The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Doors’ Morrison Hotel in their entirety over a series of two nights.
The Breakfast are in the process of finding themselves all over again. They are touring on without one of their founding members, playing clubs and trying to instill a fan base however they can.
The Breakfast performs at The 8×10 Club in Baltimore tonight. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the band hitting the stage at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for those age 18+ and $10 for those age 21+.
