Twin Peaks
Remember Coach?
If you’re the target demographic for this newspaper, you probably don’t. Coach was a show that ran on ABC in the late ’80s and early ’90s. It starred Craig T. Nelson (whose voice you may recognize from The Incredibles, or whose craggy, weathered face you might have glimpsed on Parenthood).
It was, by all accounts, a fine, workmanlike sitcom. And, if industry reports are to be believed, it is being revived as a 13-episode series on NBC.
And it’s not the only TV revival or reboot in the pipeline: Showtime is apparently still working on Twin Peaks, despite conflicts with its auteur producer/writer/director David Lynch. Netflix may soon be bringing us a revived Full House, and a fresh batch of The X-Files will soon be coming to Fox.
And that’s not all! More Arrested Development may soon be coming to Netflix, and Community is soldiering on to its “six seasons and a movie” promise with a season airing on Yahoo! Screen.
Weren’t we supposed to be in a golden age of television? Or are we still, with nostalgia-based properties the next logical step? In any case, why can’t we let sleeping dogs (or shows) lie?
Read on for our writers’ thoughts on the glut of revivals and the talents of the newly-freed up David Lynch…
