Former Maryland basketball players Dez Wells and Evan Smotrycz agreed to one-year deals to play in the German Basketball Bundesliga.
Wells played for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Summer League and won the championship with them. He started in all of their games and averaged four points and two rebounds. He didn’t look bad, but it was clear he’s not quite ready for the NBA. Instead of heading back to the D-League, where he played for the Oklahoma City Blue (the Thunder affiliate) last season, he took the overseas route and joined Tigers Tübingen.

Smotrycz spent summer league with the Toronto Raptors after spending his first season out of school with Keravnos in Cyprus. He only played in two games and scored four total points in 12 minutes. It was a bit of a surprise to see Smotrycz’s name appear anywhere related to the NBA, so it’s not really surprising at all to see him head back overseas. He will play for Eisbären Bremerhaven.
