Two unidentified men orchestrated an early morning carjacking in the Graduate Hills parking lot on Tulane drive, said University Police.
Police later found the silver Mitsubishi Eclipse in Washington. No injuries were reported.
The criminals approached their victim, a 27-year-old graduate student, on foot late Saturday night. The victim was talking on his cell phone in his car when one of the robbers produced a handgun and opened the victim’s vehicle door, demanding his wallet and telling him to get out of the vehicle. The victim complied and flagged down a shuttle bus a to report the crime to police.
“The victim really did the right thing by cooperating with the robber and notifying [police] immediately,” Police Spokeswoman Maj. Cathy Atwell said.
“We certainly are investigating [the crime], and we’re very concerned,” Atwell said. “The good news is the victim notified us immediately which is extra helpful in our investigation.”
