MSU aims to amp student voice in city

Maryland Students United, the non-profit group created by Student Government Association President Aaron Kraus and Vice President of Campus Affairs Josh Berman, has become an affiliate of the League of Conservation Voters’ Project Democracy organization, which educates and mobilizes young voters.

As a practical matter, the affiliation will open MSU to new funding opportunities through grants and give the organization access to the environmental lobby’s informational resources, said Berman, MSU president.

The benefits could lead to “considerable amounts of money to help students become more active members in the democratic process in College Park,” Berman said.

MSU’s three main goals include adding city polling locations on the campus, redrawing the city’s district lines to create more coherent student voting blocs and lowering the required age to run for the College Park City Council.
