This vaudeville act isn’t like any other. And they like it that way.

In a performance called Welcome to Homo Hallow, the Eggplant Faerie Players juggled, unicycled, sang, danced and otherwise entertained an audience of about 50 people with circus antics based on the very real lifestyle of those who live in the queer community Idyll Dandy Acres — or IDA, for short — in the backwoods of Tennessee.

The players — TomFoolery and MaxZine — opened their performance in the Hoff Theater last night by telling student attendees about the history of IDA.

Located in the “buckle of the Bible belt,” IDA’s 200 acres are dedicated to providing a safe space for queer and transgender people to learn how to live on a farm and provide for themselves.

About 10 individuals call the farm home, though visitors come and go regularly, according to IDA’s website. The open space also hosts a variety of performances throughout the year and gave birth to the Eggplant Faerie Players.

They even have an internship program, which TomFoolery and MaxZine encouraged audience members to apply for.

Throughout the performance, which was sponsored by the Pride Alliance, audience members seemed dazzled by the performers’ costumes — which changed frequently throughout the performance — and shenanigans.
