The college football season is now over. It was a largely forgettable one for Maryland, which went just 4-8 after starting its year with a huge upset win over Texas.

However, there is some respite for Terps football this season. Thanks to the site myteamisbetterthanyourteam.com, we can use the magic of the transitive property to prove Maryland was actually better than some of the best teams in college football. Let’s take a closer look.

No. 1 Alabama

We really owe a shout-out to Syracuse for making this one possible. The Orange somehow managed to beat the 2016 national champions while also losing to Middle Tennessee State in the same season.

No. 2 Georgia

This is the exact same sequence that shows Maryland is better than Alabama. That would be thanks to Auburn, the sole team to beat both Georgia and Alabama this season. In fact, the Tigers dealt the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide their only regular-season losses of the year.

No. 3 Oklahoma

This path is actually pretty simple. Maryland is able to claim superiority over Oklahoma thanks to the fact that the Terps were able to beat Texas in the first week of the season. Iowa State going into Norman and knocking off the Sooners is what really allowed this one to be completed in this just three games.

No. 4 Clemson

Once again, props to Syracuse for pulling off the baffling feat of losing to a team from Conference USA and defeating the ACC champs in the same season. Without your inconsistency, this chain would surely be much longer.

No 5. Ohio State

Some would look at this screenshot and laugh. “Maryland lost to Ohio State head-to-head,” football scholars would proclaim upon seeing this. Well, guess what? I hope you paid attention in your elementary school math classes, because the transitive property is never wrong.
