The university has proposed a plan to transform Cole Field House into an indoor football practice facility.

Phase one of Cole Field House’s renovations will commence Dec. 22, campus officials announced Thursday during the facility’s first neighborhood meeting.

The first six months of construction will occur primarily within the building, said Bill Olen, capital projects director. This phase will also result in a decrease in parking spaces on the north side of the building, but Olen said the area is small and the alteration will likely not affect many drivers.

Work on the facility’s expansion should begin by late spring, he said.

He said the neighborhood meeting helped alleviate some of the questions and concerns raised by the building’s occupants, who felt they hadn’t been given specifics or a clear time for when they had to move.

“We went over the overall schedule and let them know what to expect,” he said. “I’ve never been involved in a project where there’s so much energy.”
