Pete Davidson

Saturday Night Live cast member and stand-up comedian Pete Davidson will be headlining Student Entertainment Events’ Spring Comedy Show on Feb. 5, the group announced Tuesday. The 8 p.m. show in the Stamp Grand Ballroom is free and open to the public. The performance will mark the finale of the annual StampFest, the student union’s day of activities and fairs.

Davidson, 21, joined SNL this season as one of the youngest cast members in the show’s history. Last Year, Variety magazine named him one of its “Top Ten Comics to Watch” and his stand-up work has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The New York native has been doing stand-up since he was 16 years old, according to Deadline

“He’s a big up-and-coming name, one that you’re going to want to remember for the future,” said SEE’s comedy director, Ben Stryker. “If you tune into SNL on any given weekend, he stands out. He’s hysterical.”

The event marks SEE’s third comedy event of the school year, after Joel McHale and Kevin Hart both performed in Cole Field House last semester. Davidson will aim to garner the same kind of positive reviews that McHale and Hart earned on campus, but one big aspect of his performance will differ from his predecessors.

“One of the biggest things about this event is that it’s free,” Stryker said. “Who doesn’t like a free event?”

Plans to bring Davidson to campus were put into motion shortly after the Hart show, Stryker said, and the young SNL star was immediately one of SEE’s top targets.

“He was towards the top of our list the whole time, so, when we found out he was available for StampFest, it was a no brainer,” he said.

Davidson follows a line of other prominent comedians who have headlined SEE spring comedy shows — former SNL “Weekend Update” anchor Seth Meyers in 2012, John Oliver in 2013 and Amy Schumer last year. Davidson’s performance will mark a return to the Stamp Grand Ballroom for the Spring Comedy Show as Oliver and Schumer were both featured in Ritchie Coliseum.

Doors for Davidson’s show open at 7 p.m. and seats will be available first-come, first-serve.
