A 38-year-old Prince George’s County District 1 police officer faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol following an incident in Bladensburg early Saturday morning, according to police.

Driving a marked cruiser, Prince George’s County Police Ofc. Daniel Gonzalez reportedly hit the concrete wall of a bridge near the intersection of Route 1 and Tanglewood Drive at around 5:15 a.m., according to police. No one was injured, but the responding officer suspected Gonzalez, a six-year veteran who was off-duty at the time of the accident, was intoxicated and administered a breathalyzer test, police said.

Gonzalez’s breath alcohol level was .13, according to police; he was charged and released.

Prince George’s County District 1 Commander Maj. Robert Brewer said his department is taking the incident “very seriously.” The department is conducting a criminal investigation and an internal investigation.

“[Gonzalez] will go through a criminal investigation, he’ll go to trial, and regardless of the findings in the criminal trial, he’ll have to face discipline,” Brewer said.

The county’s Special Investigation Response Team is working to find evidence, and the Office of the State’s Attorney will review the case, police said.
