Gabby Galanti

Terrapins women’s soccer forwards Alex Anthony, Gabby Galanti and Alexis Prior-Brown have suffered torn ACLs in the past few years, and they’ve all rehabbed with an extensive roster of trainers and physicians at this university.

Prior-Brown is sidelined and still in the beginning stages of her recovery, while Anthony’s back on the field and thriving. After missing the 2013 season due to an ACL tear, Anthony has scored two goals — tying her for second on the team — in just four games this year as she’s also battled a nagging hamstring ailment.

Anthony, a redshirt freshman, injured her knee in 2012 and wasn’t back at full heath until last winter.

“I decided at the beginning of the season [to redshirt] just because of where my rehab was going,” the Littleton, Colorado, native said. “I wasn’t going to be healthy enough to meet expectations I had for myself and that the coaches had for me.”

Anthony played in three games early in this season but hurt her hamstring multiple times in practice. She returned to the field Sunday and scored in a 1-1 draw with Illinois.

During the rehab process, depending on their injury, players slowly work back to their playing shape, spending as much time at regular practice as they can.

Galanti tore her ACL in 2013, but she is playing this season.

The redshirt sophomore lived in College Park over summer, rather than at home in New Jersey, so she could continue her rehabilitation.

“I did a lot of strengthening, easing my way back into running or playing, to prevent future injuries,” she said.

Galanti credits the trainers who worked with her for her progress and full recovery.

“They did a great job, making sure I stayed on top of my rehab and just building that personal relationship,” Galanti said.
