More than 50 members of this university’s Black Student Union assembled last night to take a picture and send a message: Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old high school student shot and killed in Florida last month, will not be forgotten.

Martin’s story has become a national controversy in recent weeks. He was shot to death by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who has not been charged because of a Florida self-defense law.

Fox News host Geraldo Rivera sparked further outcry last week when he suggested the hoodie Martin was wearing was just as responsible for his death as Zimmerman. Demonstrations of support across the country, like the one students held yesterday, have featured protesters wearing hooded sweatshirts.
