most definitely HOT:
“Tell Me Why” by Radiohead
After a slip up on “Faust Arp” led to the impromptu cover, Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood went back and did it right. The Neil Young cut played beautifully at Radiohead’s Aug. 25 Hollywood Bowl show. Straightforward, yes, but why fix what isn’t broken?
“ACID TONGuE” by JENNY lewis
Our first listen to Jenny Lewis’s forthcoming Acid Tongue has all signs pointing to great things. The title-track – a slow-burning, acoustic confessional – follows the heroine through her drug-fueled travels. It’s a simple tune, to the point and from the heart.
most definitely COLD:
“NEVER MISS A BEAT” by Kaiser Chiefs
What in the name of ’80s new wave are the Kaiser Chiefs doing? Under the (mis)guidance of ace producer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen), the Chiefs have gone from easily-ignored to downright atrocious. “Never Miss a Beat” does just that while drowning everything with muddled production.
“Appalachian springs” by The VERVE
We couldn’t think of a less-enthralling return than that of The Verve. And “Appalachian Springs” is a pretty fitting calling card for Richard Ashcrcoft and company – the song sticks around too long and is far too dull to inspire much more than hitting stop.
