University Police responded to Montgomery Hall on Saturday morning for a report of a cutting incident, according to a UMD Alert.
The incident was labeled an on-campus serious assault, and police reported the suspect was in custody, according to the alert sent at 3: 41 a.m.
Police sent a second alert at 4:08 a.m. issuing an all-clear and reported the victim was in serious condition and on the way to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect was still in custody, the alert read.
This incident is under investigation.
