After the Maryland men’s lacrosse team lost, 5-4, to Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday, it fell from the top ranking in the nation.
The Terps dropped to No. 2 with their first defeat of the year, while the Fighting Irish climbed from No. 4 to secure the first spot.
In the past two seasons, Maryland has suffered just three regular-season losses. Two of those defeats have been to Notre Dame, though, with the pair of set backs marking their lowest goal outputs since 2013.
On Saturday, starting attackmen Matt Rambo, Colin Heacock and Dylan Maltz were limited to a combined four points, their lowest tally of the year. The trio averages 10.4 points per contest.
Maryland has a series of upcoming road tests remaining on its schedule. The Terps will travel to face three more current top-15 squads this season, including No. 12 Albany next weekend.
