A university student found the gun used in the Wednesday armed robbery of a student and turned the weapon over to police on Friday, Prince George’s County Police said.
Police said the student, who asked not to be identified, found the silver and black semi-automatic pistol at the end of a driveway on the 7500 block of Princeton Avenue, buried in snow. The student noticed the gun after a car parked on the property since last semester was recently moved.
The student had read in The Diamondback about the gun, which was tossed by a car full of fleeing robbery suspects, and immediately called police when he found it, said Maj. Kevin Davis, who commands police District 1, where College Park lies.
An extensive search was conducted Thursday by county and University Police along with about 100 police recruits to find the lost weapon, but they were unsuccessful in finding it. Police halted the search due to the icy conditions.
